In the 10th year of a major bull market in US stocks, amid a flattening yield curve and heightened geopolitical uncertainty, US financial markets are as volatile and treacherous as they have been in a long time. The benchmark S&P 500 collapsed by 20% in the 4th Quarter of 2018, only to quickly recover 13% of that loss in January alone. Is the January rebound just a corrective rally in an uncompleted October decline, or the beginning of a sustainable bottom at the late December lows – and a new buying opportunity?
